Finding Balance: How I Practice Wellness During the SemesteršŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļøšŸƒšŸ„¾

This semester, I’ve been taking my wellness and self-care more seriously and taking on some new hobbies. With school, exams, club meetings, responsibilities, and everyday stress, I’ve found balance and peace by simply moving my body in ways that feel good to me. Hiking has become a way to reset and reconnect with myself and to explore the area around me. Sometimes you just need to reconnect with nature fr. Whether it’s a solo walk and finding peace in solitude or with a friend just catching up, hiking is a great low-intensity workout. I went on the Hollywood sign hike, which is actually a very intense hike and I don’t recommend to beginers, but it was still fun! Something else that I have been getting into is yoga and stretching. Stretching helps me slow down and release tension when things are feeling overwhelming and yoga is a great medium-intensity workout that works every muscle in my body. I’ve been doing it here at the rec center on campus, where they offer free classes. They have 50-minute classes almost everyday and I guarantee you will break a sweat. Wellness for me isn’t about doing everything right but rather about showing up for myself in simple yet meaningful ways. I’m also learning that wellness doesn’t have to look perfect or follow a strict routine. After all, every day is different and sometimes you’re not in the mood or just don’t have the energy to get into the gym. Just as long as you do your best and do something that makes you feel good. Challenge yourself this week and go to that workout class or go on that hike with a friend! -Alyanna Garcia
